Ahab and the Whale Become Best Friends is the second track off instrumental rock quartet Sad Turtle’s upcoming album, This Day in Age. The title is taken from a Seinfeld episode where Jerry pokes fun at the pointlessness of re-examining things.

Sad Turtle – Ahab and the Whale Become Best Friends

Sad Turtle is an instrumental quartet from Burlington, Vermont. Their compositions juxtapose the raw power of rock instrumentation with rich ethereal textures more often associated with ambient or cinematic music. They specialize in introspective songs with silly names. How do people describe our music? Some say “math rock” some say “cool grooves” some say “indie” some say “funky.” Give a listen yourself and draw your own conclusions.

Sad Turtle’s second album is comprised of 10 tracks, with the album title playing on themes of acknowledging the impermanence of the “now” or present, tweaking the “This Day AND Age” phrase to take on a retrospective bent.

This album is meant to represent a snapshot of Sad Turtle’s songwriting, showcasing musical growth and maturity from their debut record, Ruthless & Toothless. This theme is accentuated by the album cover, which features a childhood photo of guitarist Justus Gaston enthusiastically posing with a turtle that is… less enthused. Just as people enjoy revisiting old photographs and observing what’s changed and what hasn’t, we hope that This Day in Age will be something listeners can revisit through the years.
