Grupul francez a luat ființă în 2008, la Paris și s-a făcut remarcat printr-un stil muzical definit ca o îmbinare de succes între mai multe subgenuri, precum: metal, deathcore, metalcore, post-hardcore sau progressive metal. În esență, trupa se definește ca aparținând stilului deathcore, rezultat al îmbinării dintre metalcore și death metal.
La doar un an de la înființare, au lansat primul lor EP (produs pe forțe proprii), intitulat „The Hurt, The Divine, The Light”, un material foarte bine primit de public, lucru ce a făcut ca materialul să se vândă în Franța în peste 2.000 de copii. A urmat imediat un turneu european (2010), lucru destul de rar pentru o trupă abia înființată, în cadrul căruia au cântat alături de nume ca: Whitechapel, Dark Funeral, Darkness Dynamite, A Skylit Drive, Adept, Despised Icon, Dance Gavin Dance, While She Sleeps și Shadows Chasing Ghosts.
Primul lor album, numit „Breathe In Life”, lansat în 2011, se concentrează pe teme complexe al umanității, precum: semnificația vieții, a credinței sau profunzimea presupusă de relațiile interpersonale. Debutul discografic a fost primit cu recenzii pozitive de critica de specialitate, revista franceză „Guitarist Mag magazine” definindu-l ca fiind unul dintre „Top 5 albume ale anului 2011” (fiind poziționat în top imediat după Megadeth), trupa fiind, de asemenea, nominalizată drept „Best Newcomer of the Year” în categoria „Hard Metal”. Mai mult decât atât, Betraying the Martyrs au fost nominalizați printre „Cele 10 trupe de metal care trebuie ascultate în 2012”, alături de nume ca Asking Alexandria și Five Finger Death Punch.
În 2014, francezii au lansat un nou material, „Where the World Ends”, urmat în iunie (același an) de „Jigsaw” și în iulie de un cover după „Let It Go” (din ”Frozen J). Tot în iulie, a apărut și cel de-al doilea album, intitulat „Phantom”. Materialul discografic a fost urmat de un nou single, „Won’t Back Down”, ale cărui versuri iau atitudine împotriva atacurilor teroriste de la Paris și din întreaga lume, mesajul principal al melodiei fiind: „La un an după groaznicele atacuri de la Paris, trebuie să ne amintim cine suntem, care sunt lucrurile în care credem și pentru ce vrem să luptăm, fără a permite să ne pierdem identitatea”.
Lansarea fiecărui album a fost urmată de câte un turneu internațional, alături de nume mari ale scenei internaționale precum: Suicide Silence, Unearth, Slipknot, Slayer, Veil of Maya, Carnifex sau Beneath The Massacre. Pe lângă turnee, Betraying the Martyrs au devenit la scurt timp după înființare o prezență obișnuită la unele dintre cele mai cunoscute festivaluri, precum: Greenfield Festival, Elveția (unde au urcat pe scenă alături de trupe ca Rammstein, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Prodigy sau Parkway Drive) sau Ghosfest (alături de The Devil Wears Prada, Chelsea Grin or Veil of Maya).

The French band was set up in Paris in 2008 and was remarked by a musical style defined as a successful blend of several subgenres such as metal, deathcore, metalcore, post-hardcore or progressive metal. Essentially, the band is defined as belonging to the deathcore style, the result of the metalcore and death metal.
After just one year they released their first EP (self produced), “The Hurt, The Divine, The Light” which was very well received by the public and sold in France in over 2,000 copies. Immediately after followed a European tour (2010) where they played together with bands like: Whitechapel, Dark Funeral, Darkness Dynamite, A Skylit Drive, Adept, Despised Icon, Dance Gavin Dance , While She Sleeps and Shadows Chasing Ghosts.
Their first album, “Breathe In Life”, released in 2011, focuses on complex themes of humanity, such as the meaning of life, faith, or the depth of interpersonal relationships. The debut album received positive reviews from critics, the French magazine “Guitarist Mag magazines” defining it as one of the “Top 5 Albums of 2011” (being positioned in the top immediately after Megadeth), the band being also nominated for “Best Newcomer of the Year” in the “Hard Metal” category. Moreover, Betraying the Martyrs have been nominated among “The 10 metal bands to be listened to in 2012”, along with names like Asking Alexandria and Five Finger Death Punch.
In 2014 they released a new material, “Where the World Ends,” followed in June (the same year) by Jigsaw, and in July by a cover after “Let It Go” (from Frozen). Also in July, the second album, entitled “Phantom”, appeared. The discography was followed by a new single, “Will not Back Down,” whose lyrics take their stand against the terrorist attacks in Paris and around the world, the main message of the song being: “One year after the terrible attacks in Paris , we have to remember who we are, what are the things we believe in and why we want to fight without allowing us to lose our identity. “
The release of each album was followed by an international tour, along with major international names such as Suicide Silence, Unearth, Slipknot, Slayer, Veil of Maya, Carnifex or Beneath The Massacre. In addition to touring, Betraying the Martyrs soon became a regular presence at some of the most popular festivals, such as: Greenfield Festival, Switzerland (where they were on stage with bands such as Rammstein, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Prodigy or Parkway Drive) or Ghostfest (alongside The Devil Wears Prada, Chelsea Grin or Veil of Maya).
